LG Rumor 2 Message Reminder not working?

Why doesn't the message reminder work on the LG Rumor? I go into Menu>Tools&Settings>Settings>Messaging>Message Sounds>Message Reminder and select "ON" but it still doesn't work. When ever I miss a call or message it doesn't beep or alert me in any way. I've called Virgin Mobile and they sent me another phone but it's the same bullcrap with this one. PLEASE HELP!!!!
