Since the start of this year my two year-old DVD drive that I rarely ever use has had a reading rate of only 50% and a writing/burning rate of 0%. In other words, it has successfully read no more than half of the movie and music CDs I've tried to play on it but failed to burn data into any of my newly bought blank CD±RWs.
I have two related questions:
1. Is it true that the typical life span of the average DVD±RW/±R DL/RAM Drive is only one to two years?
2. And that of CD±Rs only four to five years?
The above is what salespeople have told me. Are your experiences consistent with the information given to me?
