Linux Ubuntu to CD help?

I have an old computer with a blank harddrive. I want to install Ubuntu on it, so I downloaded it. I entered a cd and the computer instantly formatted it, taking it from 702mb to 696mb. The file is 699mb, so is there any was I can trim down the file or put it on the CD without the CD being formatted?
