Long distance BF gifted me a mobile headset (for V-day?)?

For valentines day (I presume). It came in a bag on saturday with no sender's name; I told him about it and ultimately he told me he had sent it. We are in a LDR (met several times in person) and we talk on the phone a lot, so was it a gesture to make it convenient for me to talk to him!?
We like each other a lot..but I am confused. I actualy kind of told him off (indirectly)

Why would some one gift a mobile headset as a romantic gift to their partners! Is it normal ? May be I should expect something nice in the post soon? Or does he wants to throw me off guard or is this idea of a romantic gift! :( any answers?
OK agreed, i was a little rude; but I am not expecting anything fancy or expensive; a simple card/ chocolates would have been nice. A headset on other occassions is understandable but on V-day?!
 
To him it could be a romantic gesture. If you two talk a lot than he is giving you something nice to make it more comfortable for you for those long talks. Tell him thank you and that it will make it better for you on your long conversations. It's a nice gesture on his part. Appreciate it and even though it wasn't what you wanted he still gave you a gift and there has to be a nice meaning behind it or he wouldn't have sent it.
