Longboarding, Please help this newbie start?

Im new to the sport, ive seen some videos... and it looks amazing. Im new to the whole 4 wheels, ive always been a bike guy, but i want to try longboarding.

Can you please give me some tips?

What are the "Brand Name" good quality boards, and etc...

Sector9 and arbor are my two favorite board companies; both have cool websites where they list all their boards and what theyre meant for.

It all depends on what you'll be doing (carving, bombing hills, cruising around town, etc.) And once you have that established you can find a good board for you

Ps. If you find a good bard you can usually find it new and at a significant discount on ebay, thats what I do :)

Hey :) I'm 15 n I've been longboarding since I was 5 and racing for 3 years :) Personaly my 3 favorite brands are 'sector 9' 'loaded' and 'fibretek' I have one of eachand they are all great boards :)

It depends what you are going to be using it for (racing and speed, carving, tricks, just riding around town) also on height n weight...

Sector 9 is good for the money and is well-made, they are good cruiser boards n handle nicely.
Loaded is also good, however a bit more expensive. I have a loaded 'dervish' which is my favorite of all my boards, it holds speed nicely but still turns smoothly.
Fibretek mainly focus on race boards and are more expensive again.

For a beginner I'd recommend a sector 9, more of a all purpose board would b ideal so u can do a bit of everything and decide what area you want to focus on, then u can always change it.
