Okay, I have an unusual question. I'm working as an RA this summer and have access to a full research grade lab. My Supervisor has allowed me the use of the lab so long as I don't use any of the expensive reagents or tie up any important lab equipment. I'm looking for experiments to do to create a sampling of compounds (any phase) to keep for a long period.

Ideally I'd like a variety of interesting compounds that are synthesized without terrible trouble. The idea being that after I make the compound, I would flame seal it into test tubes or culture tubes to keep around.Ideally that means no horribly explosive samples either. I have most glassware on hand, including distillation apparatus and filtering systems, as well as access to a Schlenk line, fume hood, and so on.

So far I have in mind Tollen's test, synthesis of nitro- and nitrito- linkage isomers, Werner complexes of copper and tin, an extraction of caffeine, and (supply permitting) isopentyl acetate. Ideally I'd like a few more colourful compounds (complexes of iron, nickel, aluminum?) and some more organic compounds. However, my lab is mostly geared toward inorganic analysis, so there's lots of caustics and metal salts, but organic supplies are short.

Compound names or links to documents are great, don't feel obliged to re-type everything for me!
