male betta and bubble nest?

I used to have my male betta in a 20 gallon tank with my guppies then i took him out and put him in his own tank and today when i looked he created a bubble nest. Why is he doing this if he has never been near another female? Is it just a faze?
 
sometimes male betta make bubble nests when they are really happy. therefore he is most likly happy that you moved him to his own tank.
 
he is happy with his new home and is finally in a safe place...good work, keep him alone
 
It could be that he finally matured to the point where he feels the need to impress a female. It could also be that he tried before but your guppies destroyed the nest.
