You seem determined to keep any reform to a bare minimum, you are making ridiculous argument about the suffering of animals (that you are hunting for Christ's sake) to justify keeping semi automatic rifles on the menu at walmart. I mean, seriously, listen to yourself.

That's one. How many other mass shootings were carried out with illegal weapons vs legally acquired weapons?


I don't think you don't care. I just think you've deluded yourself into thinking that guns themselves are not part of the problem and should therefore be immune from criticism and certainly from any form of legislation.

On balance, do you really think banning semi-automatic weapons would increase the death toll in the US each year? Do you really think that being able to own a weapons with a detachable magazine saves more lives than it costs?

I think you're honest in your views, as I believe most pro-gun Americans are.

More people are killed by cell phone distractions then mass gunman. Many more people are killed by drunk drivers. Shall we ban cell phones and alcohol?

The idea of the item (guns, phones, alcohol) is not the "buy guy-influence". It is ultimately the PERSON who misuses these.

History can be shown, there were gunman, snipers way back since the 30's into the 70's using rifles, shotguns, etc. It isn't the type of gun, again it is the PERSON

If I desire to have a AR, but take the responsibility to lock/secure it when not in use, I should have that right to own it.

Then why can't you own rocket launchers or tanks ?
It would be pretty straight forward to set up some kind of competition involving accuracy for them.

I agree that it is the person not the gun, but the type of gun, the magazine capacity and the type of ammo used can make a big difference it the amount of damage that person can do.

Also, would the quality of your life be greatly different if that AR you purchased was a bolt action vs a semi automatic? It seems to me that there was plenty of killing done in WW2 with bolt action rifles.

Some collectors do own those items.
Many people do not have the same finances as those collectors

The missing reality is NOT the item, but the PERSON who does not take the responsibility for the security of those items

Mixed that lack of responsibility with a PERSON of mental problems or criminal intent, then a gun,( nor a van loaded explosives, nor a plane), will stop that PERSON from harming-killing others

Almost agree.

However, I have seen people reload even six-shot pistols fast.

Semi-autos were indeed created to give "less effort" of round chambering, but it does not lend it to state that these are the only "killers"

The type of ammo is not of difference. A bullet traveling does the same damage penetrating the right target no matter the caliber.

Stat wise, people are killed everday, every hour, by one or two bullets. The tradgedy of mass gun slayings is the same as plane, train, or bus crashes...they involved mass deaths at one time and cause more of a media flurry

This just brings us back to the "argument" we keep getting that cars , cell phones drink , drugs and knives kill more people than guns , so why don't we ban all of those as well ?
You need to decide which it is.

Agreed. That is why I posted somewhere to make sure people who own or care to own these types of guns, be forced more "responsibility"
(Think of it as child-prevention drug containers or safety devices)

The NFA looked upon the threat of certain weapons causing mass destruction and set out to do that.

It was drafted too early to include assault-style weapons and 20-30rd magazines.

I am all for the current Brady Act and a new NFA to enforce more "responsibility"

Now given that, people can still obtain NFA class weapons, but there is more strict government (BATF) intervention.

(Rarely, nowadays, are there any mass murders with NFA class-type weapons)

And those crashes are a media flurry as well. Especially plane crashes

In the world of insurance, accidents are caused by human error. There really isnt such a thing as a "accident". It comes down to somone NOT doing their job to protect people
(ALMOST No different than cell phone users and drunk drivers operating a vehicle)

The same as; the person who allowed the mentally ill or criminal to get the gun. Someone not doing their job to secure their gun.

Lets be honest, the purpose of a semi-automatic weapon is to allow you to shot faster and more accurately. It takes more effort to regain your sight picture with a bolt action rifle.

It is not that semi-automatic weapons are the only killers. It is about that they are better killers.

Burglaries statistically tend to be in pairs. Home invasions are uncommon as it is but I've seen reports of up to 6.

But those pilots and drivers still didn't intend to kill those people , in mass shootings the perpetrator did.

Thank you , I'm trying to get a handle on this as in the UK it's pretty rare but Americans seem to be using it as justification for semi automatic weapons in self defence.

Same as mass bombings and mass slayings without guns which happen in other parts of the world

I disagree with that last argument. One of the design purposes of a gun is to be able to kill things. If being able to kill things was not the issue the the answer to our problem would be to limit people to soft-air and paintball guns and no one would care. Heck, I even own a couple of soft air guns for target shooting.

It doesnt have to be semi auto for defense.

Allow me to try to clear it up.

In the 60's-70's the major type of guns to be obtained were bolt action and revolver pistols. (Note: There were semi-autos, but the manufatured numbers were low and these were not popular)

People were getting killed everyday by revolvers. (History shows there were mass slayings of the period by bolt-action rifles and shotguns as well)

Then, the "criminal element" started to use semi-autos to get the "upper hand"

Naturally, law abiding people (and law enforcement) switched and the trend went upon semi-autos for defense.

Suffice to say, if a criminal has a big dog, you have to get one as big or bigger.

I keep bringing up the NFA, because it was created to harness the transfer and use of certain class, mass destruction weapons, i.e. machine guns-full auto

The NFA was not created to stop ownership, but halt the ready availability of those weapons within that class.

I am for a new NFA along with slowing down manufacture for assualt weapons and hi-cap mags.

Such weapons before, will have to fall under a registration "grandfather" clause, along with the restriction to have owners take more responsibility for security.

Currently, there isn't a registration for private ownership transfer (i.e. Columbine)

I am all for registration, as a reponsible gun owner, I have nothing to hide

Speaking of responsibility;
The recent tragedy was a mother, who did not, or was in denial of a family member with a problem. She did not, or care not, to secure her guns, which could have prevented the slaying. (However, interesting to note, that if someone sets their mind to kill, they will use something else)
