Many Injured in Explosions at Boston Marathon

If anyone. Because whoever did this has to know that if they claim responsibility, they will give the various 3 letter agencies a head start in the man hunt.

I wouldn't trust anything in these reports until tomorrow.

I saw this thread on my phone and shared it with everyone at the Boxing gym. Sad stuff.

The worst part for me was reading the immediate articles talking about those injured. Unfortunately I know what the aftermath of an IED looks like and with the amount of blood on the streets in the photo there are probably quite a few killed and quite a few who lost limbs. Boston is where most of my immediate and extended family live, hopefully none of them were attending. I don't like phone calls where I have to ask if people are alive and have all their limbs in tact.

It's hard for me to get really upset over a situation like this knowing my own country meddles so much and does the same type of thing in other countries. It's just one constant, vicious circle.

CBS News reporting two dead, over a hundred injured with many critical. Two bombs went off, two recovered and defused. Better get used to this kind of crap....

So my wife gets home from her brother's place hanging with visiting relatives and knew nothing of what transpired in Boston.

As it turns out while I knew he who was best man at my wedding and his wife were in Boston I had no idea they went to watch some friends who were entered.

Nor was I aware that he had spoken to my wife about possibly situating near the finish line.

So as soon as I heard this I zipped an email off-with relief there was a reply, but how's this reply-

Ahhh, My Lord Regent,

We were indeed present at the running of the Marathon. It was a joyus and wonderful event, until disaster was forced upon those at the finish line.

We had seen J__ ___ and hugged her and had left to board the train to return to our car. At the cross terminal they evacuated the train and the station and that was our first indication that something was wrong.

We are quite all right and will be making our way home tomorrow afternoon.

Life is a funny and wonderous thing. Had we not seen and hugged J___, she would have been crossing in front of the explosion when it went off, it was That Close!

see ya soon,

Wow. J___ is a person he and I went to school with.

I know right now I'm luckier than a lot of people,at least everyone whom I know of that was in Boston is ok.

Yeah. on 9/11, I remember hearing on the news that people were in custody. Or not. And there being a dozen airplanes taken over. Or not. Etc. I would not trust any news until at least 48 hours after the event.

I seem to remember that back in the day, the IRA used specific codes in their communication with law enforcement, when they claimed responsibility for a bombing. That way, it would be harder for for fringe groups to claim bombings in the name of the IRA.

Whoever did this could easily claim it in the name of some other org like al qaeda and the masses would run with it.

I've just heard the news about this appalling atrocity. I really hope that no MAP'ers or their friends or family was killed or injured. But the fact is that someone's loved ones WERE caught up in it, and my thoughts go out to them.

Whoever did this, there is surely no justification for targetting innocent civilians. No cause or issue is worth that.

I was looking at some pictures on facebook (rather disturbing one with pools of blood and I'm quite sure I saw a leg) and everyone's already blaming al qaeda for it. Some quite fantastic racism on there too.

edit: Speaking or pictures, anyone who's particularly morbid, reddit has compiled a few threads with images from there. I looked at them out of some weird need I have to at least see what the people there had to deal with and I'd like to make another point congratulating the responders, runners and watchers who got involved helping people. There was some incredibly gruesome stuff in there that's going to haunt the witnesses for a long while.

well surprise, wbc bastards say theywill picket the funerals and say this happened because massachusetts legalized gay marriage.

I despise them with a purple passion.

RIP to the victims.

I was glad to hear that many people ran out and donated blood immediately after.

I apologize if this part of my comment came off as directed towards people in the Muslim community. While I did not write this with the middle east specifically in mind it can certainly be taken that way and ignores the possibility of domestic terrorism. Plenty of conflict within our own country for something like this to happen and continue to happen.

Didn't realize what I wrote but I had to double check and make myself clear after reading a few articles related to this incident about how people in the Muslim community automatically show up and rally to support the US or other countries after such an attack, while getting the message of "this is not Islam" across to those who believe otherwise.

You're right there is domestic terrorism, like the pro lifers who kill doctors who do abortions. Just 1 example.

(btw my 5000th post? W00t! I have no life!)

Damn those pro lifers. It's an outrage that anyone should be 'pro' life. We should be as much 'anti' life as possible.

Just for my education: what is the percentage of people who are against needless abortion vs the ones who actually kill abortion doctors? And how often does that happen? Because in order to call something terrorism, there are different criteria than to be called a serial murderer or a mass murderer or any of the other types of murderers.

The word 'terrorism' is rapidly devaluating these days because everyone slaps it on any murder which they object to on moral grounds.

What is the definition of ?

Who has the right to determine if pregnancy is welcome or not? Maybe the woman might have a voice in this?

Perhaps everything isn't as black and white as some people would like it to be?

Let's not take this thread down the abortion is right or wrong route please.

Not going to get into the pro life/ pro choice crap because this really isn't the right thread for it, but the defintion of terrorism is "The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims." So yes, blade's case of pro life groups attacking abortion centres could be classified as terrorism. You don't need a beard, a dishdash and an rpg to be a terrorist

Sorry, I was actually more concerned with how language can be used to vilify a position without seeming too by the use benign sounding adjectives.

Both sides engage in this and it really annoys me.

I shall cease and desist.

Yes, damn those 'pro lifers'. Because if you are out murdering people then you arent pro life are you.
