made him even better than Messi.? I'm fed up with all these people comparing Messi to the genius that was Maradona. I saw Maradona play when he was Messi's age and he was much better. Just because Messi can dribble like Maradona doesn't mean he is on Maradona's level.
What made Maradona so special was a genius at everything, not just dribbling:
dribbling of Messi + vision of Michael Laudrup + free kick taking ability of Juninho/Beckham + strength of Rooney/Tevez + desire to win of Roy Keane + range of passing of Pirlo + unpredictibility of Ronaldinho + crossing of beckham + finishing of Van Basten = Diego Maradona.
Imagine a player that is the best in the world at:
free kick taking, dribbling, vision, passing range, crossing, finishing, strength and desire to win. That, my freinds, is what Maradona was when he was Messi's age.
Messi is the best dribbler in the world. He has great vision but not the best in the world. He is a great passer but doesn't have the passing range of Pirlo, Alonso or Fabregas. He isn't even the best free kick taker at Barcelona, never mind the whole world. He isn't the best crosser and isn't the strongest physically.
The most obvious thing that made Maradona better than Messi is VISION and PASSING RANGE. Maradona's vision and passing range was as good as his dribbling. Messi has great vision but his vision is not as good as his dribbling. Also Messi has NO passing range. He only passes along the ground.
