Nope I was a schoolboy then a sixth former. In fact I was about to go into a History class with Nicholas Henshall as my teacher when news of her resignation came out

Yes I remember it that clearly

Nice labelling.
I could go with typical lefty, blaming thatcher for everything that went wrong in Scotland.

I just found your first post offencive to anyone related to the deceased. And you seem to have carried a bitterness for quite a long time. Though im going to go out on a limb and say you never actually met Thatcher?

I never met Thatcher, but that didn't stop her economic policies from driving my family into poverty.

Say what you will about Blair and Labour, but they helped to fix a lot of the damage that Thatcher and her minions did to the working classes.

It wasn't a comparison, it was an extreme example used to illustrate a point that wasn't directed at Thatcher.

If the only way you can win the argument is to start misrepresenting the arguments of the other side, then maybe you should rethink or at least rephrase your position.

See I really seen it as a comparison. And I don't think im the only one who did.

e.g

Q;"How can you be happy that someone died?"
A;"Well people were happy when Stalin died"

Raz

My family were worse off under Labour, hence they were a party who we did not support. More people did therefore democracy was met

Same when Thatcher was relected 3 times...and Major after that

I'm not glad she's dead and I'm not even glad she's gone (since she left in 1990), but I hate the way she governed this country and I hate the fact that the toffs in Downing St. work from the same crap on the poor hymn sheet that Thatcher authored 30 years ago.

and again, you're using her re-election to illustrate the popularity of her policies, when really, those elections were lost by Labour more than they were won by Thatcher.

I was asked how can people have a positive attitude towards someone's death, I gave an example of a situation were that could occur I chose an extreme example to inject a little humour that plays on how tatcher is viewed by many. Trying to make my statement out to be something it wasn't shows off doubts in your position. Also hannibal many would argue you were bot paying taxes at the time so were not politically effected, its not logic I agree with but its along the same lines as you saying I wasn't born yet so nothing she did effected me or my country.

How is that even slightly related to the points I am making?

It is absolute hyperbole to use the death of Stalin to justify celebration in the death of Thatcher - not even REMOTELY comparable

Ok outside of this thread that’s fine. You answered the question how can someone be happy that another died. You have an example. But it doesn't comparably justify your content that Thatcher died.

The humour was not clear, especially in light of how you launched the thread - that's why we have smilies

And it shows no doubt in my position at all since it was entirely tangental to my position and in no way impacts it either for or agin

And as for taxes, I paid them as a student as a direct result of the policies she initiated (Poll & therefore council tax)

It wasn't used as justification, it was used as an example of why a person might rejoice at the death of another. The example wouldn't work unless the person was terrible.

You're putting words in his mouth.

When she got in they campaigned that was 6%, she soon got it up to almost 12%, levels not seen since the great depression, yes she really improved things.
