wait, you say you hated school because it forced you to take a class you won't use again, then you say you chose to take calc? what the hell

calculus is far from useless. even if you aren't going into engineering or any math based major, it still improves problem solving skills and teaches you new ways to think. just because you weren't dedicated enough, doesn't mean the class was useless.



lol, i hear that from my friends who say things like "why do I need this, I'm going to be a business major" then they act all shocked when I mention that they have to take business calculus.

statics question.

hint: if you push straight down on a ruler ( 2dimensional ) the perpendiculardistance from the point of force to axis of rotation = distance.... so the moment from a 10lb force applied at the 6 inch mark about the end of the ruler would be 60lb*inches or 5 ftlbs.

question 3 is 3 dimentional which makes it pretty tough. ( same idea though )
question 4 will be a shorter question involving number patterns and I will give a reference site to explain it a bit. ( I think I have a good one )

Ill post indepth solution later this week and make it as easy to follow as possible ( your a quick one you wont have any problem ).
if your going into engineering you will need to take a statics course.
( statics/dynamics if you chose mech )
again though... I dont know about the american edu system.

Yes, I know I have to take statics. I bought a statics textbook from the school that was on clearance, but I haven't gone through it yet. I don't know anything about statics. I got your example though. I'll try to work through it later.

The last question is retarded...Not because it's hard (cuz it's not) but because, 1) It's not a math question, it's a physics question, 2) If I were to solve it the way you hinted I'd be spending waaaay more time than necessary on it, and 3) No cares what you're learning in your classes...

yforce = 160N
zforce = 120N

My = 160N*200mm = 32000Nmm
Mz = 120N*(root 300^2 + 200^2) = 43 266.6Nmm

Mtotal = root ( 32000^2 + 43266.6^2) = 53814.5Nmm = 53.815Nm

distance => Mtotal=Ftotal*Dtotal=>53.815/200 = 269.1mm

3a) 53.815Nm
3b) 269mm
