One of the most difficult fantasy football players to get a handle on for the 2012 season is Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jacksonville Jaguars. When he plays, he’s about as dependable as it gets at the running back position. However, right now there’s a very real possibility that he won’t be on an active roster to begin the fantasy football season.
Why?
Money. Maurice Jones-Drew wants a new contract. The Jaguars want him to honor the final two seasons of his deal. Now MJD’s agent is saying the running back is open to a trade. The Jaguars, who seem to be stuck in the rebuildig mode, may look to trade their disgruntled star — but they’ll want a lot in return.
As of right now, I’d hold off drafting MJD in the first two rounds. Come the third round, he starts to have value again. But as it stands, Maurice Jones-Drew is too likely to miss the beginning of the season to take a huge gamble on him.
Then again, if he signs or gets traded to a team that will give him plenty of carries, Maurice Jones-Drew becomes a first round draft pick in 2012 fantasy football.
