The dream unfolds like escalator steps,
each a mobile platform until they collapse,
one into the other,
disappearing at the knife edge.

Landings seem to approach,
the idea of stability tantalizing,
yet again,
the steel stairway dematerializes.

Forcing against the tide,
steps taken backwards only neutralize,
devalue the progress made before,
up is where you go,
out comes after.
