McCarthyism and Witch-hunt?

First of all, I have to do a 8-10 page paper on this topic but teacher said that I have to refine my topic so it is not as general. Secondly, I have to make an outline of it and I do not know what to talk about for 10 pages so any suggestions would help!

Be different.

Write about the things that McCarthy was correct about (many of the accusations were true). McCarthy was a nutcase BTW, but there actually were many Communists actively working against American interests and they did infiltrate our institutions during this period.

To refine the topic, maybe you could base your essay on answering one of the questions following:

Was the McCarthy witch-hunt justified?
Was the McCarthy witch-hunt beneficial for the US?
Would it have happened WITHOUT McCarthy? (Was it really a political fight, or a personal vendetta?)
What made M. decide to...?
Did M. represent public opinion re Communists?
Is M. just a product of his times?
Did M. represent the interests of the state ofWisconsin?
What issues motivated M., was it more than just anti-Communism?
