Here is the deal. I bought a 2003 audi A6 about a month ago. The check engine light was on when I bought it. I took it to the mechanic that the dealer suggested, the dealer is paying for the repair ( warranty deductable ). The first time I took it there, he had it for 2 days and finally told me that he didn't even have the correct equipment to analyze the car. The second time it was there for a day and he told me he knew what it was but this was a friday and he couldn't do anything until monday so I picked the car up. I am suppose to bring it back so it can finally be fixed - something to do with the torque converter.

Here is the question:

I wrote down the mileage when I left the car on friday morning. when I picked up the car friday afternoon it had been driven 15 miles.

Even if they did need to do a test drive - there is no need to take it more than 1 mile - let alone 15 miles!

Do I have any recourse against this guy?

Should I have him fix it or find someone else?

was it important to mention the car u bought!!......i think if you could afford a nice car like that you wouldnt be whinging about 15 clicks.....

Are you seriously bitching about 15 miles? Also a 1 mile test drive lasts like 30 seconds(hell to get out of my subdivision it's almost a mile). If nothing seemed to stand out he could have driven it further. If he was testing out the car he may have driven it 5 miles somewhere and back(which is a few minutes), and by the time you got home you drove it anther few miles to total up the 15.

its very common for them to take cars on test drives. the distance could be because when he took it on the drive, he took it to a parts store to pick something up. i would let that go, but if i dont get fixed next time, i would find somebody else to take it to

I am a tech at a hyundai dealership. No worries. When the check engin light is on, we have to check for codes. And after the problem is fixed, the car has to be driven to make sure the light doesnt come back on. This is standard, so no worries!
