Mens fitness: Whats the best way to get lean and toned?

I weigh about 12 st. I have muscle but also fat i want to get rid of, and be lean but really toned. (dont want to get bulky or body-build!)
what's the best dietary options i should use if i was to run a couple of times a week and use free weights?. I've been looking at whey protein but i don't understand when to take take it (after workout? before? how many times a week? should i take it after every single run or workout? will i get fatter taking to much? do i avoid carbs altogether? any advice in lemans terms. Im sick of looking at sites that all talk about bodybuilding.

Yeahh running is a very good way of losing weight.. If you wanna lose weight fast don't eat rice or any carbs like bread and stuff.

For breakfast drink a smoothie with boild egg

For snakes eat Dried cranberrys or any sort of nuts

For lunch eat a very big salad and some chicken

For another snake eat Apples

do some cardio workouts like biking, running, running, etc. lift lighter weights(should be easy to lift), wake whey protein after u workout
 
Supplements and pills are for suckers. Go on a raw vegan diet. That is the only way to lose weight fast and keep it off. Yahoo! search the name: Philip McCluskey, raw vegan. I do not feel bad for fat people because I was fat and I KNOW that a raw vegan diet will help one lose massive amounts of weight while keeping them healthy.
