Messianic Judaism; Aren't Christianity and Judaism meant to be mutually exclusive?

It's a new one on me.

Can anyone enlighten me, because I thought the two faiths diverged sometime in the first century.

All Christians should consider themselves Jews because their faith, which uses the Old Testament as a foundation, teaches that the Jewish Rabbi Jesus Christ is the Messiah;exactly the same belief and practice used by the Christian/Jewish denomination called Messianic Judaism.
