Microsoft Word 1997-2003 document to Word 2007?

I tried opening a microsoft 1997-2003 format document with my exam in it and it won't open in Word 2007..what do I do??? please help in detail.. THanx
 
I'm trying to send two files that are saved as ms 1997-2003 on microsoft 2007. But the person I'm sending it to wants it as MS 2003 in both files. Why won't it send, do I have to download microsoft 2003?
