Mirena IUD/IUS - can you tell me about your experience?

I'm having the Mirena coil put in next Tuesday, and I'd like to know about other people's experiences with it.

1) Did you have a period after you had it put in?

2) How did it affect your periods?

3) Is it painful to have inserted?

4) Can you feel the strings?

5) Have you had any complications?
On the plus side, I'm in the UK so our healthcare is free...
 
Mine was awesome the whole year that I had it, until one night I began having terrible sharp pains in my abdomen, I went to the emergency room and found out that it had been dislodged, the E.R did all kinds of test on me, ended up costing me $10,000 in healthcare bills bc I don't have insurance, and it took about 3 months for me to have the thing removed bc no one could get to it, finally they found it and removed it, and it was pretty painful, I had to have my cervix numbed with shots, it was a terrible experience, and don't recommend it to anyone, and also I'm lucky I didnt get pregnant

also knew a lady whos IUD got embedded in her lining of her cervix and she had to have surgery, and I've heard this is pretty common
 
It can cause spotting at all times in the first few months. After that maybe a day or two or really light bleeding, not enough for a tampax. I hate having them put in but I am a coward, pretty unpleasant but worth it for the years of peace afterwards. Caused a bit of a tendency for more discharge. Couldn't feel string.
