I have a 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante.

It all started a few weeks ago when my car wouldn't start outside of the grocery store. It was odd because the lights, radio and fans all came on at full power but the car didn't even attempt to turn over, it was completely silent. A couple hours later I had my father jump start the car. I figured the battery was finally getting old, had it replaced and thought I was done.

Two nights ago it happened again at the grocery store and this time I had my roommate come to give me a jump after waiting a few hours for her to get home. When we got to the car before we even tried hooking the cables up I gave the car one more try and it started right away. Odd.

Yesterday I made a quick trip to the library and it wouldn't start again. A man was nice enough to try and give me a jump but it had absolutely no effect, completely silent. I came back a few hours later and the car started up right away.

Right now I'm thinking something is wrong with my starter or solenoid. My roommates think it might be my alternator, but I feel that would result in a weak battery which doesn't seem to be the case. Any time I've ever had a weak battery the lights in the car would be a dim, the car would at least try to turn over and letting it sit never had a difference big enough for it to start up again. Also the battery or alternator being bad wouldn't explain why a jump start would do nothing.

Does it sound like its the starter to any of you?
