I have a mitsubishi eclipse (1994 if it matters) and I recently replaced the battery. The last battery I had was overdue, but what surprised me was the fact that even after the car had been on and I was driving for a while, the battery would still die after every stop I made, so I replaced it with a brand new gel cell battery... 2 weeks later the gel cell is dead. I used a trickle charge from a jump box I have and it is now working again. Something I noticed when putting it in though is that even though nothing is on in my car (no lights, no stereo, nothing...) wire still sparks when I touch it to the battery. I am not a mechanic but I don't think that it should spark, indicating electricity is being drawn, when nothing is on right? Any ideas on how I could fix this? (Temporarily I am just undoing my cable to the battery at night so it doesn't drain and go dead... I don't wanna have to do that forever.)
I checked my alternator and it seems to be working fine...
