I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.0, 2 wheel drive model truck.I've had the truck for around 3 years and when I purchased it used it had a slow oil leak which the dealer told me was the valve cover gasket.I drove the truck for most of this time like it was with no problem,I mean yea it leaked oil but very little and I keep a real good tab on it making sure to not let it get too low.Well back in November my alternator went out which I quickly attributed to the leaking oil,I took it to a shop told them to fix my oil leak, and replace my alternator, they did so,but when I got it back the oil was still getting low.I also saw puddles of fresh golden oil on my new alternator, needless to say the alternator soon gave out again. The shop worked with me assured me they'd fix it and re- replaced my alternator and told me my manifold gasket was leaking oil as well (something they hadn't noticed before) and fixed it, or so they said they did, to my amazement only charged me 16 dollars.I was proud of them and happy. But, Now I still have a oil leak and I have fresh oil on the bottom of my 2nd new alternator, and the truck is still leaking oil from somewhere.Last night driving home my battery and brake lights come on as they always have when this has happened, a sign of my alternator going out once again!!!
My question would be
One, the shop told me that the truck may be burning the oil but the truck doesn't smoke and there's no oil emitting from the tail pipe.
Without these two signs could it still be burning the oil? and if so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a quart worth in two weeks would it?
Two, they have mentioned head gasket at least once but wouldn't my water be getting low and wouldn't I have overheating issues? Loss of power issues and etc.Truck runs fine and has plenty of power.
Three why is it so hard for them to find the oil leak and fix it?
After all, I know it's still leaking if there is fresh golden oil on my new clean alternator right?
Four any suggestions?
