Some people that have analysed the footage of the moon landing say it was faked. Some say that they were even involved with the original filming of it which took place somewhere in the desert. True or not what do you think about loosing the original footage and not being “too worried about it”.

Man went to the moon, no doubts about. Did NASA fiddle with the published images, of course, it was about propaganda. Hell they still do it today. You think those beautiful hubble images look like that originally.

Yes but the reason they do the Hubble images like that is hardly about propaganda and more to do with the limitations of the technology involved in capturing and transmitting those images. When you consider how far away those pictures are taken I think it's more than understandable.
 
The origional images from the first moon landing were apparently really clear and defined, what the public saw was a camera pointed at the monitor becuse they had no way of transfering between formats. It's a shame most of us never got to see the orig's.
 
Image enhancement is used all around in science, especially when you have to create an image from radiation outside the visible spectrum! From all kinds of microscopes up to the Hubble telescope, there are loads of image enhancement techniques that can be used, depending on what information you need to extract from your visual data. Publicity shots are just that, for publicity, and in many cases they can be closer to the original than the images used for scientifc research!

Now, as for the bloody MOON LANDING TAPES gone missing... someone is trying to cover up something! Blunders like this don't just happen!

It may be true and may be not (as it sounds)
But i cant judge before i see it myself.
I wont trust hubbles because it is not the the best image capturer.
 
Of course they do. Especially given the size of organization that is NASA. Having worked with more than a few people who were at NASA I can tell you... it's not surprising in the least.
 
So wait wait wait... lemme get this straight... I want to clarify what it is some of you are saying...Man went to the moon with a computer whose processing technology barely equaled your average desktop calculator and primitive rocket technology.. and yet we have these badass supercomputers and space shuttles nowadays, and yet you mean to tell me.. we... landed on the moon with still a bare comprehension of space, gravitational fields, solar radiation, rocket propulsion, ect., and yet we haven't done that with all of our modern technology?

the moon landing was done in a hollywood basement. Oh but he was moon bouncing! I can moon bounce too with cables attached to me and pulleys on the ceiling.

And if what Wax said is true.. c'mon dude.. its been 40 years.. you mean to tell me that they can't recode that data and show it back to its original color and detail?
I mean for chrissakes they re-did the entire Star Wars trilogy and made that great! So why can't they do the friggin 'moon landing?'


Go ahead.. tell me Neil Armstrong couldn't be faking that kind of pride from never accomplished that. I'd be the most prideful person if the government paid me a freighter full of cash and never taxed me again..
 
You've pretty much ignored the political will to get to the moon. You haven't taken into account the political climate of the era. It play a very large part in the development of the space program.


Can you cite a credible source... or would it be the same as something that publishes about crop circles and alien abductions?



It seems you didn't read the article clearly and don't understand how data degrades over time on magnetic tapes. Learn a bit about it and it might make more sense to you. Or not.

Oh my. While your trying to get your head around this I suggest you read up on what level astronauts are at. They definitely are the upper echelon of achievers in their repsective fields.

You're trying to slag someone based on a knee jerk reaction and with a limited understanding of the factors involved.

Not really the way forward.

FACT: The Americans went to the moon.

The idea that is a fake is a money making scam from the people who make BIG BUCKS writing STUPID books and producing STUPID TV 'documentaries' to show to STUPID and gullible people that spend all their lives worrying about the latest conspiracy.

Simple proof for conspiracy theory people that the USA did go to the moon...

It was at a time when the Soviet Union and the USA were NOT FRIENDS!!!!

If the USA had done a fake landing the Soviets would have a) Known about it and b) TOLD EVERYONE!!!!

but that said...what proof do we have that the moon landings happened?

Im not saying the did or didnt...but how are we supposed to make an informed decission without any real proof.

...and when you see all the apparent flaws in the footage...

...and think about the nature of the equipment they had...

you can very form questions that havent been answered.
 
Good argument and political climate aside.. It doesn't answer the question. How on earth does a rocket with the computing power of a desktop calculator rocket out of orbit, fly all the way to the moon, land, take pictures of bouncing around and the flag standing at attention, get back in their little craft, then fly allllll the way back to earth, and land safely? Its even harder to grasp at it when they have so much trouble nowadays with space travel, but 40 years ago with even less technology makes it a more realistic how?

Not to discount your opinion man, but I mean these things just scream at me for being 'bullshido'
 
They lost the tapes in the 70's, only realised it now. The tapes may have been kept at the dish that recieved them (possably here in Oz ) till they were transfered for archiving, and with all the copies made from the broadcast transmission may not have been considered a priority at all. Hell, if they were kept here, we even lost the actual rocket for a bit before they reached the moon.

Watch the movie 'The Dish'. Great film... well, if you like aussie humor it is, probably a little to subtle for most yanks
 
Because the computers didn't control the vessel, people did. The computers just crunched the numbers when needed.
 
Blunders do happen, but if you are a member of the general public and not NASA, you must assume that there is something else going on.

I feel that in such cases it is the obligation of the government to prove that JFK died in a car crash, and the public's to prove that Princess Diana was shot!

As for the moon landing, who cares, all this hype and conpiracy theories come from an era where over-paranoid american agents and soviet communist drones were trying to outnuke each other, with some hippies thrown in to mix things up .

The age of private space flight is upon us, if people are so worried about the moon landing they might as well form an organization, buy a cheap 1990's rocket and send it up there

You mean the abomination that was the 'Special Edition'? With crappy, last-millenium digital effects that ruin the whole feeling?

Note a VERY interesting parallel here: After years of protests, George Lucas decides to let the fans view the original films on DVD, but claims that he lost the original tapes, so they have to be remastered from lower quality laserdiscs - this way the 'special' editions will still look better.

Now that's what i call a clumsy cover-up!
 
Which makes it less feasible. I mean high level of training astronauts receive aside... You're driving a friggin rocket. Thats about as clever as riding a bull. Except Bulls don't fall apart piece by piece like the Apollo rockets did.

Anytime your dealing with a government agency there is massive amounts of mistakes like losing things, even historical footage like the moon landing. Even in my small corner of government our budget goes something like this when errors are made:

We need $10m more...

Why?

We made some mistakes in our original numbers...

Okay.....

Its called 'cost plus' budgeting and it goes on all the time in civilian contracting to the military (especially).
