Motorcycle Enthusiasts

I don't remember what really got me interested initially, I know that my best friend at the time had one when we were younger. So, i learned to ride a little dirt bike, then I grew up and got my first cruiser, Honda Shadow 500.

Road that for a while and then sold it and moved away and just forgot about riding.

Started work and a guy at the office bought a motor cycle so I got one about a year later.

I ended up getting a Kawasaki Ninja 650R, it is the bike that has the pipe under the bike, which I liked because I have two young kids growing up and didn't want them to touch the pipe. Like OP, my bike gets 55 mpg.

Someone backed into my boyfriend's bike yesterday.. Its at least three to five thousand dollars in damage. Thankfully he wasn't on it, but still. The man tried to settle it right there with $300. Even the cop laughed at him, thats a $20,000 bike, you just ran over a Ferrari. I know he'll get a new one eventually, but he was crushed.

It scares me, but I love it. but it still scares me. I thought it would be like the gsxr to ride but it's awesomely different.

BTW I met someone from Notts at a rally last year who had the same bike in reversed colours of mine same year.

You have to re-learn how to ride on a sports V Twin, but once you've done it you'll never go back to an IL4. I had a 98 R1 from new, which rocked big time, but the MilleR I sold it for was such a hoot, especially on short gearing.

Edit: I'll look out for the bike

Would like to have the BMW F650GS and use it on a steep, winding road and do the same with a KTM 990 and see which one is better.

Which KTM? The 990 Supermoto is an absolute hoot but quite different from the 990 Adventure which is a much softer beast. The Supermoto is the most fun you can have on a bike about 5% of the time, just mental.

At least people can have fun on their bikes right now, mine's been in the garage 2 weeks and still no call to tell me they've looked at it

Mitch suggested that I post more recent pics of my Fizzer-6 here, so I'm obliging. After I lowsided back in 08, I drilled out and epoxied some of the plastics, hence the pattern. The colors were chosen to match my street riding pants (Draggin cargos in YS-camo), which invites lots of "dude, where are your legs?" comments
This came right after the repeairs..

A bit of rice, but at least it didn't cost an arm and the leg.. Lasted the life of the tires too

I'm considering downsizing to a WRX since I don't do as many long distance runs and the new laws in Ontario are really cramping my style, so I'd rather have most of my fun at the track. Thinking of getting an sm-converted CRF450 for that particular use.

General rule: do the minor stuff yourself - most of it takes less time to do than for you to take the bike to the shop and back (and you see how long the waits are).. Save the major maintenance items for the off-season.

I'm on a '05 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide Classic. Got it new with 2 miles on it. I now have 36,500 (and change). I feel like it's just getting broken in good.

Unfortunately, I don't get out for much recreational riding much. Primarily ride to work and back. But, I got some really great country roads on the way home. I have plenty of different route options for riding to and from work.

My new acquisition:
It's a 500cc single. You won't be seeing much of me for a while, I'm afraid as there's a ton of work to do.

Grass track racing outfit is full of win!

What you going to do with it KE? How much did it set you back?

Mitch

A hundred. I'm going to put a bucket on the sidecar and convert it into a road bike with lights and a speedo and stuff.

£100? Bargain!

You don't need lights for a daytime only MOT of course, so you might save some dosh if you only need it in daylight hours.

Remember you don't need indicators or mirrors even for a full MOT on a bike of that vintage.

There's more that I can't remember, but check it all out first to keep your costs down

I love big singles almost as much as big twins

Van Zandt will make this thread very dirty ndeed if he ever reads that...

Cool, cheers. I'm pretty much going to put lights on though as it's going to be my work bike- the sidecar is for my tools. There's other stuff, like I'll have to put some weight in the sidecar to stop it tipping on the bends, and the back forks are knackered. LOL at the big twins comment...

Signals are cheap and easy to mount/wire up. You can probably get a decent switch from any junkyard, which is stupid-easy to mount. I'd rather spend an hour and $50-100 than having to deal with hand-signaling. It's bad enough when leading a group ride.
Sweet ride, by the way.. I love the old school stuff.

*Sniff*

I must have something in my eye.

If you've ever ridden a bike and just loved the thing, watch this and get something in your eye too
