I thought it was. I have to start carrying my camera with me again
I saw a bike the other day that was just kewl. It was a chrome-o-matic V-Rod with chubbies on it. Next thing I'll see is ape-hangers!

I was leaning toward a Ultra Classic, but I'm starting to swing back to the Road King. Just somethning about that big boss look.

Oh yeah, glad to hear you had a great time a bike week. One of these yeasr I'll make it to that event to check it off my list. And I agree I really do prefer the smaller rallies (with my wife along)

ya same color but it doesn't look as "electric" in real life. My summer trip got cancelled due to my bud getting laid off, and is afraid to spend the cash until he gets settled into a new gig

ah well. there's always next year.

How was bike week? I'm always skeert of all the traffic. Went to deal's gap memorial day weekend, that was pretty frickin awesome.

why're you going so big?
I mean it's a sexy ass bike, don't get me wrong... i heard it's supposed to run a high 8 low 9 quarter-mile, but I can't see how people get into the Fat Ladies (Kawi' zx-14r, 'Zuki 'Busa), but why go THAT big?
I never really understood that...
For you, what does a 1300 or 1400 get that a 1000 can't?

This was my bike after it's encounter with 6 tonne of truck the other week (and hence a lack of recent training on my part)

I'm planning on it's replacement being, possibly, a ZX6R (the wife thought the supermoto'd XT660 was just silly!!)

Well, I'm a fairly big guy, so in comparison the bike isn't that big. It is bigger than I expected it to be in person, but it's about the perfect size for me. I also feel I have better control over it than a smaller bike.

I'm also really into high acceleration. 1400 is a lot faster (And quieter at lower speeds) than the 1000. Voted King of Quick and all that.

Also, who wouldn't want to ride a NINJA? Hell yeah. lol.

How much gear is enough? Do you have too much?

I am curious what gear other people have.
I have my
Suomy helmet
AGV Helmet on layby!
Dainese Leather jacket with armour
RST winter jacket, full armour, waterproof
summer gloves, winter gloves
Summer jacket Dainese, no armour in it though
Waterproof, armoured pants (Can't remember the brand)
and a pair of draggin jeans.

What about you?

I just bought a new OGK helmet, I still have another two floating around.
I mostly use my Dainese two piece sports/race leathers with armour for playing. For commuting I use just jeans and a jacket that suits the weather at the time.
I have an old set of Axo race boots that I should replace.
Two pair of gloves. One set vented race gloves, the others are light weight winter gloves.
I have a couple of Dri Rider jackets both with body armour, one ¾ length the other standard length.
One back protector for playtime or track days.
I have just bought a Tank Bag off ebay for times when I need to take stuff to work or on a ride and it won’t fit in my back pack.

RS Taichi race gloves, my Nankai wore out after 8 years hard use including several offs, track and road.

Hein Gericke two fingered winter gloves. Warm, waterproof, cheap.

KTM summer one piece leathers with lots of vents.

Crowtree one piece leathers for track. Thick leather + armour = walk like you're in Planet of the Apes.

Dainesse zip togethers which need replacing, over 12 years old.

Arai Corsair helmet. The best. Bar none.

Daytona goretex boots. The best. Bar none. But a bit warm on hot summer days. Racers wear their fancy ones without sponsorship. Out of choice. Enough said.

Sidi vertebra race boots for summer use.

One piece Frank Thomas waterproof oversuit for summer, folds into its pocket and you wear it like a belt, doubles as a bum bag.

Hein Gericke goretex jacket and trousers for winter. I've commuted through freezing fog with ice forming on the outside of my fingers and on my jacket's chest. Hein Gericke gloves and heated grips (Oxford HotWraps), and the HG jacket kept me toasty.

Knox back protector or Dainess backspace.

Custom made earplugs. Probably a mistake though. Very comfy as they are moulded to my ears, but no quieter then well-fitted normal plugs (I found out in hindsight) and £40 for the pair! Always wear earplugs. I said, "ALWAYS WEAR EARPLUGS!!"

ALways buy decent kit; it will last longer and serve you better. The trick is finding out what is decent!

Is this the most pointless reply to an email enquiry ever? I sent an email asking which chin vents I needed to order for my crash helmet:

Hi Guys,
I've got an Arai RX-7 Corsair (that's exactly what it says on the back) about 3/4 years old, but the chin vent has come loose after the little mounting pins snapped.

I want a replacement but I'm not 100% sure what to order from your site. Can you advise me which I need? It's white by the way, 57-58cm size if that makes any difference.

Cheers,
Mitch
Nottingham

I've bolded the salient points.

Here's the reply from the helpful lady:
Hi Paul,

Is your helmet a replica or just a plain colour?

They are listed on the website.

Any problems please email or phone me on 0870 *** ****

So, I've told her it's white, told her I can't find what I want on the website, and asked her to tell me what to order.

So, she asks what colour it is, tells me it's on the website and doesn't tell me what to order !!

Mitch
Off to take a chill pill and safe in the knowledge that at least today he isn't the one wearing the numpty hat.

The chin vent is built into the helmet, it's a little rectangle of plastic mounted on pins at the bottom which swivels up/down to let in more/less air and to direct it to visor or mouth. Without it, it leaves a hole in the helmet which simply looks bad.

It's there to help stop visor misting mainly, yes. I want to replace it because it will look neater. I already use assorted treatments on the visor to keep it mist free, I haven't tried a visor insert because I'm not that keen on the looks and I'm shallow

Mitch

I got an Aerostich roadcrafter off ebay for about half price.
Wind riding boots.
First Gear gloves.
Shoei RF1000 helmet.

I give the visor a spray of Rain-X when I wipe off the outside. The inside will fog a little but the venting does the trick.

Bike is a '78 KZ650 cafe project.

It's the British GP this weekend, so I'm going to the Day of Champions charity event tomorrow (met Kevin Schwantz there last year, how cool is that?), qualifying Sat and the race on Sun

The forecast is fantastic, 30c and bright sunshine for race day, so should be a good day after last years washout.

Got to say I'm expecting great things from Edwards this year. After last week it's surely only a matter of time before he wins one and he normally goes well at Donington.

Anyone else going?

Mitch

I didn’t get to see the races, but the race report sounded good. Pedrosa is certainly doing well. You have to admire Rossi, he must be a tough individual. Stoner is also doing well; I doubt anyone thought he would be this competitive in his first year in motogp in a one-rider team on a non-factory bike.

I finally got to go for a decent ride on my VTR on the weekend. I fitted some Hel brake lines on Friday to improve the braking performance, other than that the bike is fairly stock. I was very happy with its performance, the top end is a bit weak but the mid range punch out of the corners is just fantastic. I was going to fit a spacer in the rear end to reduce the trail and quicken up the steering, but I don’t think there is any real need to do so now. I do want to play with the front end though, it appears to be too lightly sprung and over damped to compensate. I think a change of spring rates and thinner oil will improve it, I may still have to do some re-shimming or change valves but I’ll give the springs and oil a go first.
