Motorola Defy, should I buy it?

Please, please help me. For ages I have wanted the Motorola Defy, I get the chance to buy it now. But alot of people have said it ain't a good phone. Opinions please? I love this phone, I don't care if its water resistant. My boyfriend tells me to buy the phone I want and not settle for the next best thing, but people say they break easy.
