MY 1995 dodge intrepid gets stuck in 2nd gear when engine gets hot?

I have gathered that when there is anything wrong with the transmission,it puts itself in "safe mode" 2nd gear?Is this true?Can the solenoid pack cause this?Also only seems to happen when engine gets hot.
