My 2006 VW Beetle is driving weird?

Sometimes whenever I'm at a stoplight and then I take my foot off the brakes and try to accelerate it will accerlerate VERY slowly but the RPM will be very high! For example: After I stop and accelerate, it will slowly be at 10 MPH but at 4 RPM.So then it will sound very muffled and then it kinda jerks and then drives normal. And then sometimes it will jerk again. But then sometimes again it will jerk and the RPM will increase while I'm just driving normally. What could this be?
