my 20inch rims fit but they wont turn all the way without hitting?

the 20" rims i got for my car fit but when i turn the wheel of my car i can only turn so far. i was told that i would have to lift the car, and i was also told that i might have to shed off some of the inside where it hits (forgot what they said, something like that). i just wanted to know what i should do, if there is another option or is the options i already stated good. can you help thanks

also, another question is will a bigger rim/tire throw off my speedometer?
