My 8 week old new puppy whines, when he is in his crate at night?

Should I go to him or just let him whine.I am trying to resist putting him in our bed at night but I feel as though I am neglecting him by letting him whine. What should I do?

I used to have the same problem. I found that it is just best to leave the puppy inside the crate with a blanket or towel covering it. I always made sure to take her outside to do her business before locking her up. For me she whined for about 2 weeks and then she just stopped because she got used to it. My dog is now 8 months old and pretty much just chills in her cage the whole day she loves it in there!

Well, I don't believe in crate training but sometimes it is necessary. If you want him to stop, you have to ignore him. It sounds cruel and maybe it even is but it is the only way he will stop.

You have to realize you are dealing with a baby here. There are things you can do to comfort him, such as giving him a warm water bottle to snuggle, putting a clock or something that ticks in there to remind him of his mother's heartbeat. Also remember to put him out A LOT. His bladder is the size of a peanut and he just can't hold it.

Leave him. If you take him to your bed now you are creating problems for yourself in the future. If you keep comforting him he will never leanr to sleep by himself. You may feel mean now but it is better for him in the long term.

The truth is he needs to be in his crate. I suggest you give him a big hug and a kiss and tuck him in the crate. Put a towel or blanket over the front of the crate so he can't see out and turn the light out. If he whines at night let him outside to go to the bathroom and wait 5 minutes. Does he just stare at you? Then put him back in his crate and don't answer to him for an hour. Is he still whining? Then bring him in your room, but keep him in the crate. He could be lonely or just have to use the loo.
