Ive watched it through three times and in the end I just googled "explain Donnie Darko"
I have to admit if you do search out the explanation on the net it's a little disapointing, it relies on you not knowing something you could not possibly know because it's made up for the film, when you see that all the rest of the film slots into place but I sometimes wish that I had just carried on not understanding it.
