To disinfect my book, I have placed the book on my legs in an afternoon and turn the pages one by one in direct sunlight for about 20 minutes. Is it harmful to my book? And I am in South Australia.

Well, fist off, that short of a period in the sun is going to neither disinfect nor damage the book.

Why on earth would you do such a weird thing?

I hope so. Paper is made from pulp and there is still an element of moisture in the paper which keep it soft and malleable. Sunlight may dry that further in a period of time the paper might crumble.

way to go jack off, you've ruined a perfectly good book. I'm sure it can never be read again.

No. It will enhance the enjoyment for the reader, now that it had some fun in the sun.
