My brother's ipad has gone dodgy ?

My brother has been using my other ipod touch charger from the past couple of months because he has lost his ipad charger , and he went to charge it today because the battery had run out ( he needed to charge it and it has worked perfectly fine before)- it flashes for the screen to come up then turns off . Does any one know why it's doing this ? and do you know how to get it back? -Please Help !!!
