My Canon IP2600 ran out of ink. I changed the black one and it will not

print unless I change the color one? I changed my settings to black only and it tells me that the color is empty and to change it. I only want to print in black. The orange alarm light blinks 4 times which means the ink is out but I have plenty of ink for black.
