My car makes a whining/ howling noise when i accelerate.?

I have a 98 Ford Mustang convertible and it makes a high pitched whining noise constantly when i accelerate, but quiets down when i press the brake or let off the gas. I have had people tell me it could be a wheel baring or the drive line...but im not sure. so Irma take it to the shop in a few days but anybody have any ideas?
