My car shakes when it first starts to move?? What could this be?

probably a slight misfire, when was it last serviced? broken engine mounts would cause constant vibration especially under acceleration.

It's possible a motor mount, that the engine vibration makes it shudder only at low speed such as when taking off, but that's kinda rare. It should shudder at other speeds, too.

most likely it seems like something in the transmission. I'm assuming that you've got it in 2WD rather than 4WD when this happens. You shouldn't be driving it in 4WD anyway on streets. It can damage the 4 wheel gearing.

Might have something to do with first gear, since you shift out of first gear very quickly when driving. First gear may be going out.

93 ford explorer 4x4 4.0 v6 4 door model with automatic transmission.

it has 57,000 miles on it.

had the transmission rebuilt a year and a half ago at around 53 or 54 thousand miles on it.

when i start to accelerate sometimes like in a driveway or parking lot from a dead stop the car shakes a little bit. it only does it briefly up to about 5 miles an hour or so. other than that it drives perfectly fine. not sure why it's doing that. could it be the clutch in my auto transmission (if it has a clutch i don't know too much about cars obviously) or the transmission itself? it feels almost like what you would expect riding with someone with a manual transmission, when the clutch is starting to engage from a dead stop. any ideas?

i read in another question about a possible motor mount being broken or lose? never heard of that before....could that be what it is?

btw, it never used to do this. i just noticed it happening last night, and it did it again today when i ran to the store.
