My Compaq Presario wont read dvd-r or dvd+r discs?

So im trying to back up my files with either a dvd-r or dvd+r disc, but every time i put one in, it says please insert a disc.

I went on the website and it says this model has this:
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±RW with Double Layer Support

Does that mean i need dvd+rw or dvd-rw? not just -r or +r ?
