install a new driver? i have a compaq presario computer.. i dont know the details or anything but it plays cds but just wont recognize dvds, no error comes up it just says theres nothing in the drive. It used to play them fine, its been like this for a while, but i was wondering what exactly i have to download to make it work.. is it a video codec or a dvd driver or something.. and what does each do?

Thanks!
No its a cd and dvd drive. and it used to play them fine in the same drive, maybe something got uninstalled or i need an updated version of something. But i want to know what i need to download to fix it.

Check for the model number of the computer like Presario V2000 for example. Then head over to http://www.compaq.com and go to support. Find your computer and download the CD/DVD drivers.

If you do infact have a DVD drive, you can try Advanced SystemCare Free 3.1.2.

I have had a lot of good results with this. My wife's computer stopped reading DVDs and Gateway sent her a new drive only to have it happen again. She found this and its still working as of now. Make sure to set a restore point before running new softwares.
