My computer wont connecet to the internet?

Evey time I try its saying Modem wont initialize im trying with a dial up connection but it says modem has been removed or computer doesnt detect a dial tone any suggestions as to what my prob is b/c computer has connected before i dont know whats going on and i want to get online !!! please help!
 
ok try this.

diconnect your modem and plug everything back in.
see if your home phone is working

then check your fire wall and see if it is maybe blocking internet explorer, firfox safarri etc.
