My Computer Won't Play High Definition Files through Pinnacle Studio 12?

I have the highest possible monitor settings and everything but when I play the MTS files through Pinnacle 12, the picture sticks and jumps about making it IMPOSSIBLE to edit.

What should I do?

I have tried saving the files to AVI but that loses a lot of quality...HELP!
