My dog ate a chocolate bar. Should I take her to a vet?

If a baby ate something that was potentially fatal you would run he or she to the hospital, dont' treat your four legged baby any different. I have had a dog do fine after eating chocolate and I have also had another die from ingestion, the problem is that they cannot metabolize the ingredient that affects their heart.
 
my dog eats tons of chocolate. he ate an entire chocolate cake before, and was fine... .with the exception of the vomit soon after. i think your dog should be fine. if she begins acting weird take her to the vet, but if not i bet she'll be fine.
 
just keep an eye on her. Yes chocolate is poisonous to dogs but a large dog like a mastiff probably won't have any problem with it. I wouldn't go to an emergency vet just yet she will let you know if something is really wrong within the hour i am sure. p.s. your avatar looks a lot like mine i thought i had asked a question for a second and didn't remember LOL!
 
if you take the dog to the vet all they will do is make the dog puke up the choclate so it its possible make your dog puke
 
Did the dog just now eat it? If so, then take her to a vet so that they can make her throw up. Some dogs are more sensitive to chocolate than others so waiting is a crap shoot.

According to the website I am posting, your dog has very little chance of being seriously poisoned. I highly doubt your dog will die. Worst case scenario will involved diarrhea, upset tummy, possibly some vomiting.....and I would be surprised if all that happens too. Don't worry about it. My dog, a small boxer, German Shepard mix, about 45lbs, was left alone two years ago on Easter morning while my family went to church. Not only did he eat a full size chocolate hollow chicken, he also ate two solid full size bunnies. He then ate pretty close to all the little chocolate eggs (yes, in their pretty little wrappers) and the Easter cream eggs (all three). This and the jelly beans, all the peeps, and marsh mellow thingamabobs. He didn't move very fast for a day, and had very colourful poop, but he survived. And I learn ed he could get on top of the fridge three days later to get the stuff I bought my kids to replace what he ate Easter Sunday. He's a really sweet dog.
 
CALL THE VET AND THEY WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO THERE GONNA TELL YOU TO GIVE HER PEROXIDE TO MAKE HIM/HER TO THROW IT UP.....SOUNDS FREAKY BUT NO LIE
 
Since the dog is large and the bar was small she should be alright. Watch for anything abnormal.
 
No, even with 70% dark, a single bar will do nothing in a dog that large. Do CALL your vet, though and ask the same question: you'll feel better about it.And remember, grain alcolhol is toxic to humans but we can sure drink a lot of beer without dying. Chocolate is only mildly toxic to dogs.
