My dog has never shown any interest in toys. She is a 2 year old chocolate lab/pointer rescue. If anything she has acted nervous or scared of them. No matter what I tried -- frisbee filled with doggie kibble, smeared with peanut butter (same things with toys and balls) -- nothing. She would just eat the kibble or lick the peanut butter off and leave the toy/frisbee. She wouldn't even play with a treat ball when she knew there were treats inside it.

Today at the dog park, she was chillin' with a chocolate lab who was playing fetch with her mommy and had laid down to take a break. The chocolate lab dropped the ball that was in her mouth down. My dog who was laying besider her picked it up!! She didn't do much with it, just walked a few steps and dropped it, but I was so excited!!!

When I tried to show her the ball again, she acted the same as before. Any ideas why she picked up that ball and won't do it now? Was it just a fluke?

she probable doesn't know how to play with toys. try throwing the ball for her, then go over and pick it up show it to her again, throw it, say fetch, then take her over to the ball and see if she will pick it up. talk in an excited voice to her like, get the ball, get the ball, get it get it, and make it fun, you want to get her excited to pick up the ball.
