My dog has been sick since November and we can't find out what is wrong with him?

His early symptoms were a cough, throwing up mucous, dry heaving, and very swollen lymph nodes. The vet said it was a respiratory infection and put him on cough medicine and antibiotics. Then he started drooling all the time and throwing up more often. He also stopped eating and lost over 2 lbs, which is a lot since he only weighed a little over 7 lbs. to start with (he is a chihauhau). The vet said he had an infection in his salivary glands and gave me another antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory medication. That didn't help, so the vet took out his salivary glands. He seemed to improve, he started eating again but then the drooling came back and the throwing up came back. Now the vet wants him to come in and give him a series of injections to see if it is some kind of muscle disorder which is affecting his ability to swallow. My dog is already been through a lot and I don't want to keep putting him through unnecessary treatments. I was wondering if any body has heard of anything like this before?
