I am running a high speed connection (not sure of the actual speed as this is my parents' connection and they do not know, oy...) but regardless of the details, the download speed averages out at about 0.5 kb/s. I am not kidding. The upload speed is at about 100 kb/s. I am trying to download a 1.26gb file and my ETA says NINE DAYS! What the hell? I actually inherited this machine, and when I got it it was infected with literally hundreds and hundreds of pieces of malware. I had it fixed and had some top-tier security software installed. I honestly believe that all the spyware, etc. is gone. I am not running any other processes (other than windows and all the essential ones to keep the machine running) and the computer is not terribly slow. I run a 3GHz CPU and the machine now runs at the speed it should be. But somehow my download speed has slowed down dramatically from when I was infected with all that crap. There was gigs worth of infections, but they are gone now. so shouldn't it be many times faster than this? It was about 5x this speed (2-3kb/s) with all the malware, so I just assumed that it was the spyware that was causing it. What can I do?

This video should help you. It increased my speed by 150kb/s

The fast upload speed indicates that people are very excited to obtain the data just like you. Be patient and make sure you seed the file (keep it active after so others can upload it from you) after you finish downloading it. Then other people can obtain it quickly.
