upgrade the drive's firmware. IF the manufacturer has made such firmware available, you can find it on the mfr's web site under the support area or under drivers & downloads.
this will allow it toread newer disc types that come out (and newer disc types come out all the time that older firmware might not be able to read). sometimes, mfr's simply only make you buy a new drive. depends on the mfr and how old the drive is.
if the drive is 5 years old, replace it, it is pretty much dead.
