My dvd drive won't burn or erase dvds anymore but will with cds?

When i try to erase a dvd rw or burn something onto one it just says disk is not erasable or please insert a blank dvd!
Yes i'm sure, i only but re-writable disks.
 
Will it play any dvd?
A cd/dvd drive has two lasers one for cd and one for dvd, maybe your dvd laser has failed.
 
Are you sure that you haven't mixed up some DVD-Rs with RWs (the latter are the only ones that can be "reburned")?
