Its an HP Pavilion a6707c PC and I think its about 3 years old.
Its never had this problem, but it has indeed had many problems of other sorts.
The mic jack will pick up minute amounts of sound, extremely bad quality and it crackles/cuts in and out, almost as if the sound is getting 'clipped' even on low input volume.
The headphone jack isn't working at all, and hasn't been ever since I installed a windows update last night.
Neither were malfunctioning before this update was installed.
I don't have administrator authority on the computer so I can't see which update was just installed.
