My grandma has a phone line with no long distance. I live in a house where we have the top floor and she has the bottom. The top floor doesn't have a home phone and we are never home. Our cell phones have a different area code. So she, not having long distance, has to dial 1010220 before she dials our numbers. Costing her $1 to connect. She is a very stubborn old woman who will not spend the $5 for long distance so i have decided to get her a cell phone in my area code. I have T-mobile, and love their service. However I don't get good reception on the bottom floor. But because pay as you go T-mobile plans are expensive, I might end up getting her either a Virgin Mobile (which is the cheapest) or AT&T. So its between AT&T and Virgin. I need to know what phone that is currently being offered by both of those carriers has the loudest speaker. The phone needs to be a flip phone (So she doesn't dial Tokyo on accident) and needs to be under $30. Thanks in advance!

This is really an issue, grandparents get older and we need to make sure they will stay conected no matter what, and why some carriers charge for long distance? You should get her a tracfone with senior value, they have a great samsung, a flip phone with huge numbers on the screen that is perfect for seniors and starts at only $7 a month and the phone is so affordable, you can buy her one for only $14.99.

Hi, my oh my.... I had the same problem with my grandad, and he is stuborn too, so to convince him to get a cellphone, was more like I had to buy the cellphone and then make a huge show and tell to get him to use it, but when he saw those huge numbers on the Tracfone senior phone, he loved it on the spot, and the good part is he doesn't complain about the expense because it's so affordable!

This is really an issue, landlines can have huge long distance fees and cellphones can be very expensive too. I think the Senior Value Cellphone with Straight Talk could be your answer here. They have nationwide coverage and no long distance fees, plus their monthly service is less than $7 a month, and phones start at 14,99. I think you can get them at Kmart or in their website.

i am going to have to agree. the Senior value cellphone from tracfone is probably the best way to go. Aside from it just being extremely compatible for seniors needs... you cant get a better price. It doesn't even make a dent in the wallet!
