I got a female guinea pig about two weeks ago. she's about a month old (says the pet store). She has gotten used to us enough to come out and eat/play with us around and our hand in the cage (she will eat out of our hand and put her little paws on it), and when we let her run around, she popcorns and almost plays "tag" with our hands and runs and weeks around the room happily. She also will come and explore around us and is pretty brave when I get on my stomach and let her climb over my hands and arms.
What I'm concerned about is that she "cries" when we hold her--she used to just sit quietly (maybe she was scared) when we first got her, but now she will either struggle to get out (and then we put her down or let her bury herself in the towel), or she will sit quietly and just cry/whine quietly when we pet her. I just read recently that I should have put her down when she started whining---now I'm afraid she doesn't like me anymore. We've always used a towel when holding her, and I've tried different ways of holding her, giving her snacks, and letting her crawl around and explore on my lap so she doesn't feel trapped.
Anything else i can do or anything I'm doing wrong?
